The things that bother you in another person are reflections of things to work on in yourself. The same is true for qualities that you admire in people. When you see a quality in another that you really admire and resonate with, you are seeing a reflection of the good within you.
Sometimes it is hard to know what our greatest traits and attributes are. We can sometimes be blinded by our own brilliance and not understand the gifts that we have to give the world. One way to help better understand yourself is by looking at the people you most admire. Can you find those traits in you?
Maybe a clue will come through jealousy. Often when we are jealous we believe that someone else possesses something that we are lacking in. However, that call to desire a quality in someone else can be seen as a call to turn within and cultivate that same quality in yourself. For example, if you are jealous of someone’s speaking career, then join toastmasters and begin practicing your speaking skills.
Make a list of the three people you most admire and then write down the top reasons that you admire each of them. Take that list of characteristics, strengths, or qualities and turn within. Where are those things hiding in you? How can you build upon them and become more of what you want?
