Everyone we come across is a reflection of some part of us. The things that we judge most harshly in others is because it reminds us of some aspect of ourselves that we would rather not look at. When we truly admire someone, we are recognizing the great qualities in them that we would like to cultivate for ourselves.
The people we meet are like messengers. They bring with them the exact things that we need to work on in ourselves. They provide an opportunity for personal growth and reflection. Some are just brief messengers that cross your path in line at the grocery store while others become lifelong companions and friends.
When we can begin to see the beauty in each person that we come across and see ourselves in them, we begin to live with true compassion. Rather than creating stories about people based on a tiny glimpse into their lives, we can appreciate them for who they are and see that their actions and words are just messages.
Who are we to judge another? Whether we build a story about how inconsiderate our neighbor is for parking in front of our house or we create a fantasy about the old lady who shouldn’t be driving, our judgments are all ways of deflecting our responsibility in the situation. It is our perspective and our old grievances that are creating the forgiveness opportunity. The person is innocent – a beautiful expression of spirit – just like we are.
Try looking for the innocence in the person that you are observing. Rather than seeing judgment, look for the light of their Soul. Your judgments and grievances are disturbing your inner peace. Let them go by choosing another perspective.
