“Perfect love casts out fear.
If fear exists,
Then there is not perfect love.
Only perfect love exists.
If there is fear,
It produces a state that does not exist.”
— A Course in Miracles
I spent much of my life living in a state of fear. All I wanted was to feel better about myself and to have some kind of certainty that everything would be okay. It felt as though everyone was out to get me. That no one would love me. That I was alone and needing to fight to protect myself.
I think many of us find ourselves in this position – or our own version of it – at some point in our lives. Some never get out of the cycle of self-deprecation and fear. Yet, A Course in Miracles teaches us that perfect love casts out fear. When we learn to connect with our Source and the inherent good of our Soul, fear has no choice but to vanish into thin air.
Furthermore, the only thing that truly exists is perfect love. Only the divine is real. Our worries, fears, anger, and grief are just stories we tell ourselves and reflections playing out trying to help us return to the truth of who we are. We do not need to live in fear. We can put our faith in perfect love and live with the grace of spirit.
Your emotions are all part of your internal guidance system. You can learn to be grateful for fear and negative emotion, because without them you would be lost. Your fear lets you know when you are out of alignment with who you really are so that you can make another choice. You can choose perfect love.
Find inner peace by listening to your emotions and allowing them to guide you. You can always choose to move toward the light, but you have to honor the feedback that lets you know where you are in relation to the light.
