Do you ever wish that you had a certain quality or trait that you notice in someone else? Do you ever wish that you could have someone else’s job? Do you ever wish you could trade lives with someone?
Sometimes we get preoccupied comparing ourselves to others. We think that if we just had what the other person had that life would be so much better. The problem with getting caught in the comparison game wishing you were someone other than yourself is that you are setting yourself up to suffer.
You can obviously never be that person. And though their situation looks great from the outside, you have to remember that they have challenges too. They also look at other people and wish for something different on occasion. That person is really no different than you – they were just born with a different set of gifts to share with the world.
If you spend your whole life wishing to be something different, you miss out on the chance to become more fully yourself. You give away your authentic power every time you lust after someone else’s gifts. If you want to be truly empowered, you have to turn within and polish the gem you already have. Your gem may look different than someone else’s gem, but they are equally beautiful.
Think about the things that you wish you could become – can you identify the ways that being that thing would not live up to your expectations. What is one quality that you have that you can embrace more fully?
