Underlying beliefs and fears can block us from getting to the thing that we most desire. Whether you hit a plateau in your business or a rough patch in your relationship, there are times when you come across a snag that holds you back from finding the solution. Here’s the cool thing: you already know the answer. You’re just letting your fear block you from implementing the solution.
I’m sure you have heard the question, what would you do if you knew you could not fail? That question holds some power. Recently, I was trying to move through a block in my creative process. So I dusted off this tried and true question. Unfortunately, I found that I was already doing exactly what I would do if I knew I could not fail.
So, if I’m already going for my dreams as though failure were not an option, then what was it that was holding me back? Then it hit me. I’m not afraid of failing. In fact, I have no problem cutting loose a project that no longer serves me. If anything, I am quick to move on. Fear of failure is not my sticking point so the question was not effective.
When I reworded the question to address my greatest fear I was able to see what I needed to do differently to move through my creative block. My biggest fear is being judged and not accepted. The question for me is, what would I do if I knew that I would not be judged or rejected?
Then the answer became clear. I was denying some of the guidance I was getting and avoiding some of my desires because I was afraid that people would not like me. I was afraid that coming fully out of the woo-woo closet would result in metaphorical rotten tomatoes being thrown at me – perhaps in the version of nasty online comments. Worse yet was the fear that my family would look at me like a crazy person forever more.
What is the question for you? What is holding you back? If you are afraid of being alone, then ask yourself what you would do if you knew that you would never feel lonely. If you are afraid of losing all your money, then ask yourself what you would do if you knew that you would not lose all your money.
Tap into the underlying fear because that is always that snag that prevents you from moving forward toward the solution. When you remove that fear, then you can see the answer. You already intuitively know what to do, but you are keeping that solution hidden due to the fear of what will happen as a result of acting on it.
Identify one area of your life where you feel like you cannot get to the next level. Tap into your heart and find the one thing that you are most afraid of. Then remove that fear from your future and see what would happen if the thing you most fear were not a possibility. You will find some surprising answers and truths about the steps that you can take to break through your limiting beliefs.
